THE WORK CONTINUES:A Letter From The OC Pride Board President

As Pride Month comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the strength, resilience, and joy that define our LGBTQIA+ community.

Pride has always been more than a celebration. It is a movement born from protest, shaped by generations of activists, and sustained by communities that refuse to be silenced. While June is often filled with rainbow flags and celebrations, it is also a time to recognize both how far we have come and the work that still lies ahead.

Across our nation and around the world, LGBTQIA+ people continue to face significant challenges. We have witnessed ongoing legislative attacks targeting LGBTQIA+ rights, particularly towards our transgender siblings. Efforts to censor our stories, restrict access to affirming healthcare, and erase our identities serve as powerful reminders that equality cannot be taken for granted. At the same time, we have also seen extraordinary acts of courage, advocacy, and solidarity as communities continue to stand together in the face of adversity.

Here in Orange County, our community continues to demonstrate that progress is possible when people come together. We have seen local leaders, community organizations, businesses, and advocates work to create more inclusive spaces throughout our region. We have also witnessed our community organizing, speaking out, and showing up for one another, because we know that building a more equitable Orange County requires all of us.

Throughout Pride Month, and all year long, OC Pride remains committed to cultivating queer joy. In a world that too often tells LGBTQIA+ people that they should be less visible, less authentic, or less themselves, choosing joy becomes an act of resistance. Through community events, partnerships, advocacy, and opportunities for connection, we cultivate and created spaces where LGBTQIA+ individuals and families could gather, celebrate, and experience the profound power of belonging.

To every volunteer, donor, sponsor, community partner, ally, and community member who joined us this month: thank you. Your support helps ensure that LGBTQIA+ people in Orange County are seen, celebrated, and empowered, not only during Pride Month, but every day of the year.

As June comes to an end, our work does not.

The history of the LGBTQIA+ movement was written by courageous individuals who dared to imagine a more just and inclusive world. From the organizers of the Stonewall uprising to the countless local advocates who fought for visibility and equality here in Orange County, our history reminds us that progress has always been driven by ordinary people taking extraordinary action.

That is why OC Pride proudly continues our celebration into, and holds our festival during LGBTQIA+ History Month this October. History Month is an opportunity to honor those who came before us, preserve the stories that shaped our movement, and inspire future generations to continue the work of creating a world where everyone can live openly, safely, and authentically.

Pride is not confined to a single month. It lives in our advocacy, our service, our storytelling, our resistance, and our joy.

Thank you for being part of this movement. Thank you for continuing to show up for one another. And thank you for helping build an Orange County where every LGBTQIA+ person knows they belong.
