Mariachi Arco•Iris de Los Angeles
Mariachi Arco•Iris de Los Angeles, or The Los Angeles Rainbow Mariachi (in English), is the world's first LGBTQ+ mariachi. A unique and dynamic ensemble representing the traditions of the rich culture of Mexico, this group was created as a haven for mariachi musicians who identify as LGBTQ+ to come together and perform traditional Mexican regional music in an otherwise “machista” and discriminating subculture of the mariachi world.
Led by director Carlos Samaniego, Mariachi Arco•Iris de Los Angeles performs its repertoire to suit the LGBTQ+ community while also introducing beautiful Mexican folk music to new audiences. Just in 2023 alone, The Los Angeles Rainbow Mariachi received 2 awards for the work and message of inclusivity that they promote through their passionate music.
