Parade Grand Marshall Revealed!
Orange County LGBT Pride is pleased to announce this year’s OC Pride Parade Grand Marshall is long-time LGBT activist Porfi Alanis! Porfi is also known by his drag name Lisa Landree-St. James.
Porfi became a resident of Orange County in 1977, moving from his hometown of San Bernardino with his dear friend Frank. Within 2 short years, Porfi began developing close friends and quickly found himself immersed in a new world of Drag Queens which would forever change his life.
In 1979 he joined the Orange County Imperial Court (OCIC), a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for charities in Orange County. Mentored by a number of people including his drag mother Empress Emeritus Pauline St. James, Emperor Emeritus Daddy Rick of OCIC, Emperor Hope Hendricks and Empress Irene Williams-Michaels from the Court De Santa Monica, Porfi began a nearly 4-decade long span of fundraising and giving back to the LGBT community in Orange County. He held a number of OCIC titles throughout those years including Empress 24, 31 and 40 and President of the Board.
Drag performance and community fundraising has always gone hand-in-hand for Porfi. He notes that most anytime a local organization needs help fundraising, they usually look to drag queens to mobilize people to make a difference. And, of course, Porfi is first in line to do so. He also finds the art of drag exhilarating and reflects fondly on his first standing ovation when he performed as a Liza Minelli look-a-like.
Porfi has seen a lot of change in the Orange County over the years including a large decrease in the number of LGBT venues. However, he remains optimistic about the community. Porfi is motivated to continue his charitable efforts because of the increased outside visibility and support of LGBT non-profits, as well as a newly empowered Youth which he says “is very inspiring.”
As Grand Marshall, we honor you, Porfi. You are very inspiring.
Others appearing in the parade include Main Stage Headliner Steve Grand, as well as an opening street performance by RuPaul’s Drag Race stars Laganja Estranja, Gia Gunn and more!
Don’t miss the parade which will travel down Main Street in Downtown Santa Ana from Washington to 3rd Street on June 25, 2016 beginning at 11:00AM. The street performance will be featured in front of the judging area at the intersection of Main Street and Santa Ana Blvd.
