OC Pride Recieves Congressional Recognition
During the Orange County LGBT Pride Festival on Saturday August 1, 2015, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez made an appearance on The Yost Main Stage to offer a Certificate of Congressional Recognition to the organization’s President Zackery Glass.
The Recognition reads “I Join with Congress and the People of the 46th District in Recognizing Your Commitment to Organizing this Annual Event which Celebrates, Motivates, and Supports Our Local LGBT Community and Friends.”
This was the organization’s 6th Pride Festival and 4th year in Downtown Santa Ana. It was also the organization’s first year planning “OC Pride Week”–an entire week of events throughout Orange County.
“Next year we plan to continue to grow OC Pride Week and develop new, creative ways to raise money and give back to the LGBT community,” says President Zackery Glass, “Even though we have made great progress this year with the Supreme Court’s ruling on Marriage Equality, there is still a great need to support our LGBT youth and rally against discriminatory laws still in place that affect community members in Orange County and around the world. This year we focused on new ways to mobilize the LBGT community and connect with people that previously did not participate in our events. Our next steps are to utilize these new connections and enact real change.”
Also on stage during Congresswoman Sanchez’s presentation was drag entertainer Momma, a long-time favorite of Orange County. She’s been one of the Main Stage hosts for most of the OC Pride Festivals.Posted on August 17, 2015 in Awards, Events, News, Press, Pride 2015
